Piano Lessons

Piano is one of the most helpful instruments to learn when you are first being introduced to music theory, and can be especially helpful for singers who need to learn music at home or who are trying to learn to sight-read.

Overview

I am a 23 year old choir student at Fullerton College, and I am studying to get a degree in Music Education. I have been singing since I was three years old and have been in choirs and musicals ever since. I have been in vocal jazz groups that have competed and won first place in competitions all over the country, and have been nominated for National Youth Theater Awards.

My music teachers have made huge impacts in my life with regard to skill, confidence, and even self-esteem. My hope is to pass on the knowledge that I have gained throughout my life, while also encouraging students to be confident and put their whole hearts into the music they sing or play. I love teaching, and find it to be incredibly fulfilling to see my students progressing and becoming increasingly excited about their art. I would love to share that with you!

Stage Fright/Confidence

I personally experienced very severe stage fright growing up, and had to work for several years figuring out what helps to make performing in front of other people less scary. Because of this experience, I can sympathize with those who experience fear performing and can help to pull them out of their shells and find the joy in performing, rather than the fear.

Tension Awareness

One of the first things I look for in a new student is signs of tension. By finding and releasing areas of tension in the body, we eliminate bad habits in the voice one by one. I use a process of trial and error to find the cause of each individual bad habit.

Connecting To The Voice Through Abstract

One of my specialties in teaching, is coming up with abstract ideas that will help the student visualize their sound and make changes through different visuals. Every student is unique and will respond to prompts differently. Because of this, it is important to be able to come up with as many abstract ideas as it takes to relate to every new situation. One thing you'll NEVER hear me say is, "I don't know how else to explain it." I will always come up with a new idea until we find the one that works.
