Cello Lessons

Students can expect to get as much as they can out of every single lesson from me. I am very versatile and creative with the way I teach; every single lesson will be a unique experience. I move on from one piece/song to another fairly fast. Students will improve their skills at the pace of at least twice as fast as their average peers. Despite a fast paced progress, quality of the lesson is never compromised. Making a good sound out of their cello will be consistently emphasized.

Music theory Lessons

Students can expect to get as much as they can out of every single lesson from me. I am very versatile and creative with the way I teach; every single lesson will be an unique experience. Ear training will be emphasized because I believe being able to hear and analyze is one of the most important aspect in understanding how music works. We will listen to a lot of songs/pieces that I and my students like!

Music production Lessons

Students will learn production methods involved in Electronic Dance Music and Film Scoring. Students will be taught how to EQ and mix different MIDI/audio tracks all together. They will also be taught how to use each effects plug-ins. One the most important aspect of production is building your own sound with a synthesizer and I will guide my students through doing so.

Overview

Charles is an all around versatile musician who has a vast amount of understanding in music of any genre. Charles began his teaching career 8 years ago. At that time he was still an undergraduate music student at UCLA studying music composition. Cello is Charles' main instrument and he performs regularly. He also has a vast amount of knowledge in music theory which also helps him compose and produce music in all genres alike. He has had many students who made it into the Irvine Unified District Honors Orchestra and the All Southern California Honors Orchestra. As an UCLA Alumni, Charles has studied with renowned composers Paul Chihara, Mark Carlson, and Ian Krouse. Charles' past cello mentors are Gloria Traulle, the World renowned Alexander 'Sasha' Zhiroff who tours with Yanni, And Margaret Parkins. His piano mentors are Claire Chiu, and Esther Chen. By teaching and performing, Charles has made his dream come true as a musician who's earning a living by music.

Teaching Philosophy

It is my goal to share my knowledge of music to my students, whether it is music theory or an instrument. At the same time, music has to be fun, other wise it would pointless. I understand that music is an abstract subject and can be difficult to comprehend especially when we dive in more to the technical side of it. It is not my goal to be technical during my lessons throughout, but to find different ways to convey my knowledge of music and transfer it to the students in hope that each of my students will be enlightened one day by my teaching and mastering the type of music that have won their hearts in the first place.

My belief is that: No one learns music the same exact way. I have incorporated many ways of teaching to accommodate every possible ways an individual may be different in learning.

I enjoy having a grand piano at my own studio to accompany my cello students, to improvise melodies demonstrating the way a compositional piece may be born.

I also enjoy taking advantage of the latest technologies of music in order to help my students learn faster.
