Violin Lessons

I have been a violin teacher since I was 16. I have taught a variety of students ranging from ages 5-50. My teaching style is very straightforward: I teach my students not only how to play, but perform on the instrument. This includes evoking passion, building stage presence, understanding the history of the music, and ultimately being able to convey emotions through playing the violin. Of course, I also equip them with technical studies, such as Kreutzer, Bach sonatas, Dont, and Paganini exercises. During my time at UCLA, I oversaw multiple student group performances and acted as a coach for many chamber groups.

As a private violin instructor, I have a huge passion for teaching and I keep a positive attitude throughout all my lessons while maintaining professionalism. I like to build my students up with hope and encouragement, not through criticism and sternness. I am very organized, very punctual, honest, and responsible, and like to take a personalized approach for each of my students no matter their level.

Overview

Hi- my name is Yasmeen! I majored in violin performance and political science at UCLA. I have performed all over the world, particularly in Germany, Italy, England, Austria, and the Czech Republic as well as in the United States in venues such as Carnegie Hall and Symphony Hall. I do music in all kinds of genres- in 2013 I opened the American Music Awards under a Coca Cola sponsorship. I work with many successful famous musicians, including Jason DeRulo, Hans Zimmer, Karmin, and successful YouTube stars Sam Tsui and Kurt Hugo Schneider.

I am also involved in several music and education initiatives, performing and teaching music in underserved communities, most notably with the Max H Gluck Foundation.

Violin has helped define the person I am today. It was not until senior year of high school (eleven years after I began playing violin) that I had fully committed myself to study music. I played Mahler’s 9th Symphony in Vienna with the New England Conservatory’s Youth Philharmonic Orchestra. It’s hard to define what happened to me during that performance, but I felt as though I reached a point of maturity, which allowed me to fully understand what music meant to me: a vehicle allowing me to feel my own emotions and convey them to others in a new form of speech. Since then I strive to create this feeling every time I play.
