Voice Lessons

I was a voice principal at Berklee College of Music, with two years of vocal instruction experience. My specialty is singing rock and metal, but I enjoy teaching all styles of music and make sure the student is having fun. For the technical aspect, I focus on musicianship, intonation, tone production, technique and interpretation to get the best sound possible.

Piano Lessons

I have been playing classical piano for 19 years and teaching for 6 years. I've competed and won first place in local piano competitions. I hold an ARCT certification from the Royal Conservatory of Music, which is the highest level of piano completion. I teach using the Suzuki Method and believe that encouragement from family is very important in the first steps of learning. I have also taught beginner classical theory and jazz harmony.

3 and Up

I've always loved music for as long as I can remember. I started playing piano at 5 and have been classically trained. My passion for singing started when I was 6 and I continued that at Berklee College of Music, where I was a voice principal. I was self-taught guitar at 13, and use the instrument to accompany myself with songwriting.
I have been teaching piano for 6 years and voice for 2 years, and I continue to grow and learn with my students. My favourite style of music is rock, but I enjoy teaching all styles of music and having my students be open-minded and having fun. I want to guide them and have music be a daily part of their lives, whether it be as a hobby, or a true commitment into the future.

Teaching Philosophies

Piano: To help students grow with the Suzuki Method, as I believe that support from parents goes a long way.

Voice: I focus on Musicianship, Intonation, Tone Production, Technique and Interpretation.

How do your lessons for adults differ from lessons for children?

With adults, I offer a faster teaching approach as you tend to have better discipline and focus with age, and learn quicker as well. And no one is forcing you to play music, you are learning simply because you want to.

Why are you a music teacher?

I want to inspire people with something that I’m passionate about, as I’m constantly growing and learning with my students. I want to introduce them to music they haven’t heard before. And I help with creating your own songs, as songwriting is an important aspect of being your own musician.

Why should I choose you as my teacher?

My background at Berklee College of Music is recent and I feel that students will connect better with me as a younger teacher they can relate to, as apposed to someone whose older. I’m primarily a rock musician, which can be something different for students. I’m fluent in Mandarin Chinese. And I offer 50% off the first lesson to make sure I’m the right fit for you.

What do you do during the first lesson?

During the first lesson, I get to know the student to see their music background, get a feel for their personality and what they want to achieve from these lessons. I start off with technical exercises, work on a song of their choice, and message the students what to do for their next lesson so that they can see it in writing.
