Flute Lessons

Flute students under my tutelage can expect an interdisciplinary approach to music lessons. Not only do we discuss music theory and the flute, but we discuss the science behind why the flute works and how our bodies are able to help us operate the instrument efficiently and to the best of our ability.

When effectively taught, this approach, in the long-term, prevents overuse injury and encourages body awareness.

Overview

Christina was a two-time winner of the Missouri Music Teachers' Association's woodwind competition and a two-time winner of the Southeast Missouri Symphony Orchestra Concerto and Aria Competition.

Christina graduated in 2012 with a Masters degree in Flute Performance from The University of Kansas where she made her primary focus in studying flute pedagogy and musician's health. She was a member of the orchestra, wind ensemble and flute choir at KU. As a member of the KU Wind Ensemble, she was involved with two recording projects on the Naxos record label.

Her undergraduate degree was in Music with minors in Mass Communication and French from Southeast Missouri State University, where she was involved with the wind ensemble, orchestra, flute choir, woodwind quintet and more.

Christina finds passion in teaching students how to play the flute in an interdisciplinary way that will allow them to appreciate music for what it really is: a subject that is an amalgamation of other subjects students study in school that will help them retain information learned, but also allow the opportunity learn something new in a fun, interesting way!

She is currently on faculty at two Bay Area music schools and maintains a flute studio at her home in Sunnyvale where she lives with her spouse and her classical music diva cat!
