Piano Lessons

I have been playing piano since I was 6 years old and I was awarded one of the highest marks in Grade 8 piano in the country when I was 14, (142 out of 150) and won lots of awards in national competitions. I stopped competing when I was 18, but I have performed all over the world as a musician and singer.

My methods vary from person to person as I like to find out their individual goals and go from there, but I usually take the first lesson to get to know them and find out their strengths and weaknesses, and work on a lesson plan that helps them as well as having fun.

I teach up to intermediate level piano - for more experienced players I happily recommend others as I'm happiest teaching young children the basics and getting them great technique. I teach classical piano - starting with scales and technique for the first 1/2 hr and then for the last 30mins moving onto a piece of music.

I also teach Associated Board (ABRCM) Grades up to Grade 6, plus music theory. If that's something you are interested in, please ask! It's not for the casual player, but an ABRCM Diploma is almost half a college degree, so it's worth doing!

Songwriting Lessons

I have been singing since I was 10 years old and have written and co-written hundreds of songs, for myself and for other artists, including Eurovision entries and charting tracks. I am currently on my second album, having gained a fantastic social media following of over 150,000 and have charted twice in the UK singles charts. I've taught a lot of young people in the UK since 2010 and since songwriting I believe is vital to being taken seriously as an artist, I wouldn't be in the position I am today without great guidance!

My methods vary from person to person as I like to find out their individual goals and go from there, but I usually take the first lesson to get to know them and find out their strengths and weaknesses, and work on a lesson plan that helps them as well as having fun.

Songwriting is an art like no other, and I teach everyone, young, old, singers and non-singers! You don't have to be a great singer to be a great songwriter, and some of the best lyricists in the world are totally tone-deaf! It's all about finding your own personal preference and the style of music you like to write in.

Voice Lessons

I have been singing since I was 10 years old and since I started professionally at 14, I've performed in over 15 different countries around the world and done arena tours and festivals. Vocal training is extremely important for a singer, even the most experienced artists have vocal coaches their entire lives. I've been teaching young people to sing since 2010 and I'm very keen to continue to see them all grow as artists!

My methods vary from person to person as I like to find out their individual goals and go from there, but I usually take the first lesson to get to know them and find out their strengths and weaknesses, and work on a lesson plan that helps them as well as having fun.

Overview

Hi there!

My name is Kimberley, and I'm a British singer/songwriter, and I love teaching young people about this amazing industry! I offer songwriting, singing and piano lessons. My first rule is that there isn't any! Each student is unique and different, and my goal is to teach in a way that's fun and interesting and keeps people engaged.

I teach all ages, young and old, novice to experienced, and take great joy in meeting new people and getting to know them and helping them learn.

I teach at your home or we can sit outside in my apartment by the pool, we can even go to a park and sit in the sunshine! I'm really flexible and want this to work for you at your own pace to help you reach your own goals.

I got my A-Levels (undergraduate equivalent) at one of England's most prestigious colleges, and was extremely lucky that I had music scholarships to a number of top private schools in the UK.

I received one of the highest marks ever in the country for Grade 8 piano when I was 14 years old and I haven't looked back! I've performed all over the world as a singer, and have always incorporated my piano as much as I can. I have had a joint number one in the UK, as well as other singles in the charts and have done arena tours throughout the UK and Europe. I have masses of performance experience and a lot of industry contacts as well.

Get in touch and we'll go from there! I'm excited to meet you and chat about what you want to achieve.

Home Studio

I'm not lucky enough to have a grand piano in my apartment just yet, however I do have a full electric "stage piano", with fully weighted ivory keys, full sustain pedal and excellent sampled sound. This piano has been across the world with me on tour and it's my most prized possession!

For songwriting setups especially, I also have an Apogee 96k mic, which records directly into my computer with Logic Pro X. I use this all the time with songwriting lessons, and I also make full use of the sampled rhythms on my piano.

I also have an excellent array of music books, and a quirky printer which likes to print lyrics at random moments. I can't get rid of it, I think it's alive. ;-)

Apart from the equipment, I have the worlds comfiest couch, a projector which turns my living space into a home cinema and lots of room temperature Fiji water to loosen up those vocals. We can sip honey and lemon tea while figuring out what artists inspire you.

Questions and Answers

What experience do you have teaching kids?

I’ve been teaching kids since 2010, and I love it! I find that kids really respond well when an adult can relate to them on their level, I’m young enough to remember what it was like when I was that age, and I understand that young minds need patience and lots of understanding, as well as a fun and interactive environment to learn.

How do your lessons for adults differ from lessons for children?

For kids I use a number of books which have lots of fun and interactive pictures and diagrams which help them understand how to play. It’s a lot easier to show an adult what to do, but harder for them to learn it! Adults are different in so many ways than children with teaching, but I love teaching both equally, and it definitely provides variety! :)
