Overview
Hello!
My name is Addison, and I am offering music lessons in the Orlando area. I have been teaching for seven years in the capacity of after school violin and piano programs, as well as through a studio in Winter Garden where I teach private violin, viola, cello, and piano lessons.
My experience with music:
I began music with piano at the age of 4 through private lessons (Suzuki Method). I won many piano competitions via the Naples Music Club in Naples, FL where I grew up. In 6th grade I began playing Violin in the school orchestra, and in high school I joined the Naples Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, picked up Viola as well as Violin, and played not only in the school orchestra which performed in Carnegie Hall but also in the chamber orchestra, small quartet group, and the pit orchestra which provided the music for the school musicals.
I moved to Orlando in 2007 for college (I attend UCF). I began as a Music Education major but changed to Elementary Education with a minor in music. I started teaching with A Gift For Music, then with Music After School and Next Step Educators. These three programs provide outstanding violin and other after school music opportunities in the public schools around Orlando.
About My Teaching:
I have taught students ranging from 3 years old to 60 years old so there are really no age restrictions when it comes to who I am able to teach. I have also won the Violin Teacher of the Year award from Music After School.
Violin, Viola, and Cello:
I typically begin students using the New Directions For Strings book until they understand basic sight reading and can play with first, second and third finger. Then, I move them to the Suzuki Book series. I however do NOT teach the Suzuki method. I teach a combination of traditional and Suzuki in which the students will have a focus on theory, technique, sight reading, and ear training.
Piano:
I begin students with the Bastion method for Piano, and when they become more advanced add the Suzuki books in addition to continuing with the Bastion books. Similar to my strings teaching, I do not teach strictly by ear. Students will have a focus of theory, technique, sight reading, and ear training.
