Overview

Emil Ivanov, native of Bulgaria, grew up in a musical family where music education was encouraged from very young age. During his music studies in Bulgaria he won prizes from several national violin competitions, and graduated from Panayot Pipkov National School of Arts at the age of nineteen.

Emil Ivanov came to the United States in 2002 to continue his music education. He received his Bachelor’s in Violin Performance from Louisiana State University and Master’s from Rice University. His principal violin teachers were Sergiu Luca, Kevork Mardirossian, Borislava Iltcheva and Blagorodna Taneva. During his undergraduate and graduate studies Mr. Ivanov performed with Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, Acadiana Symphony Orchestra, Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Louisiana Sinfonietta, and other smaller ensembles in the area.

Mr. Ivanov moved to Lafayette in 2010 after being offered the Personnel Manager and Librarian position with the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra. At the same time he started working at the Acadiana Conservatory of Music as violin instructor specialized in the traditional and Suzuki methods. In 2016 Mr. Ivanov received an Outstanding Teacher Award from the Conservatory of Music for his dedicated work. Besides teaching at the conservatory, he also has a private violin and viola studio.

In addition to teaching, Emil Ivanov serves as the Principal Second Violinist of the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra and Assistant Principal Second Violinist of the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra. He also performs with various music groups in the area providing entertainment for weddings, corporate special events, and various religious services.

In 2014, Mr. Ivanov became interested in bow repair and instrument maintenance, and it became his passion since. He completed bow repair and rehair classes from the University of New Hampshire Craftsmanship Institutes in 2015 and 2016, where he studied under the direct supervision of the distinguished bowmaker and restorer Lynn Hannings.
