Overview

Hello! My name is Erin Stringer. I attended Ithaca College for a degree in Music Education and had a minor in Psychology. The following year I attended Penn State for a Professional Performers Certificate under Velvet Brown. I've played the trumpet for 7 years, the euphonium for 6 years and am also decent at piano. I've taught private lessons in school settings, for all instruments, since 2013 and had the pleasure of being a preschool teacher for one year ('15-'16). I've also been a camp counselor, lifeguard, movie theatre employee, kohl's associate and soccer referee! I also currently work as a booking agent for FivE euphonium quartet (sponsored by Besson). I do lots of volunteer work for Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts and enjoy camping and anything outdoors. When I'm not practicing I enjoy reading, cooking and I do a lot of photography work and editing video.

Questions and Answers

What experience do you have teaching kids?

I actually have a lot of experience teaching kids. I've spent pretty much every summer since I was 15 years old teaching swimming lessons as a lifeguard at boy scout/girl scout/regular day camps. I'm heavily involved in scouting as is most of my family which involves teaching many kids. I spent my junior year of college teaching private lessons for a clarinet, euphonium and trumpet student and a semester of my senior year teaching marching band at a high school in New Jersey. I'd say I work with kids very, very regularly.

How do your lessons for adults differ from lessons for children?

My lessons would actually not differ all that much between adults and children. And the reason for that is because everyone starts out basically on the same level when learning an instrument. However, if you're an adult and you had lessons previously we would start with a little more advanced concepts than just the bare beginnings. But starting from the bare beginning is great too whether you are 5 or 70, I think it's very commendable that you want to learn and I want to help you learn this skill. It's really all based on the individual and where you want to go with it. I would teach to the individual no matter if you just want to have fun or (be the next great trumpet soloist).
