Overview

Music has always been a part of my life. Since beginning the piano at age 4, I have dedicated most of my life to spreading the gift of music through performance and education. I received my degree in music education and French Horn performance from James Madison University. From there, I travelled extensively throughout the US and Europe. These adventures not only broadened my geographical horizons but also my artistic. I continue to play in a variety of settings including orchestras, fellowship and pop bands. Teaching has always been my first love and I enjoy instructing musicians of all ages. It's never too late (or too early!) to discover the talents within.

When I am not teaching and performing, I enjoy spending time with my husband Kevin working on DIY projects at our house, playing with my son Dylan (who is an awesome guitar player), snuggling with my 5 cats, curling up with a good book and knitting scarves for those horrible Texas winters!

Role Of The Parents

You play such an important role in music lessons for your child. These lessons are a total partnership between you and your budding musician. It is a requirement that your child be accompanied by a parent at each lesson. The purpose of these lessons is not only to give the child the tools to appreciate and experience music but to nurture the experience as a family and to make every day an opportunity to discover music. Your level of commitment and excitement will reflect in your child so it is important to make practice a fun part of EVERY DAY! The quick assumption is that practice must occur at the instrument or from a specific method. Our goal is to make the practice of music something we can do anywhere and with anything. We will work together to emphasize how music is everywhere and is shared by everyone. One of the easiest forms of introducing children to musical concepts is through their own cultures folk songs and what a fantastic way of exploring new geography and cultures. Each lesson will give you what you need to keep your child interested in music and their instrument. This is not a perfect process and not all children learn at the same pace nor do all children maintain the same momentum throughout the entire study. The goal is to give them a life long love and appreciation of music and to want to always explore their world. Maintain positive language. A "yes we can" attitude is always best. I am available through email and by phone and I encourage both parents and students to take full advantage of that. An open line of communication is essential for all of us so I want to hear from you and will always make time for any questions or concerns.

Tools

The voice is our most important tool as a beginner. Children who are encouraged to sing internalize the music and learn that it affects all the senses. Encourage singing whenever possible! No matter what instrument a person is learning, it is important that the student have a proper instrument. New and expensive does not always mean the best but quality and consistency is key. An acoustic piano that is in tune with a proper bench or stool is a must. Other instruments and where to obtain can be discussed with me as necessary. Course material will be decided based on the student. Any material that is used for the lesson is considered supplemental and the amount of use will vary depending on the lesson.

Piano Lessons

Charlotte was the most amazing instructor I've ever had. I am an adult that decided to learn how to play the piano because I wanted to gain a new skill and I love learning new things. I was hesitant to pursue my goal knowing most instructors work primarily with children, and it is hard to try something new at an older age. Charlotte was so outgoing and kind and never made me feel bad about struggling to play twinkle twinkle little star. I went from knowing next to nothing about music to playing Mozart. She was the best cheerleader and coach I could ever ask for.
