Saxophone Lessons

My instruction focuses on fundamentals of the instrument which include: Concept of Sound, Tone Production, Technique, Embouchure, Breathing, Scales/Patterns, Equipment, etc. I also teach musical concepts/Theory which include: Reading, Rhythm, Time, 12 Key Centers, Chord/Scale Relation, Musicality/Expression, Jazz Improvisation, etc.
Of course, each lesson is tailored to the individual student's current level and ability, as well as the students learning style. For younger students, we start with the fundamentals (as stated above) and add concepts as the student progresses. For older students, it is important to see what it is they are interested in or if there is anything specific they would like to learn, and give them what they need to be guided in in the right direction. Regardless of age or ability, I make sure to present information from various angles and perspectives in order to find what works best for each student.

6 and Up

Greetings! Through my study of saxophone during these past 13 years, I have developed a deep love for music and have gained a great appreciation for the incredible impact it can have on our lives. I would love nothing more than to share my passion, whether it be through performance or passing on my knowledge through teaching to future generations. I'd like to show students how fun and rewarding it can be to develop the skill that is playing an instrument. The concepts and values acquired through the study of music can influence every aspect of life and will stay with with a student for the rest of their lives. This includes but is not limited to: creativity, patience/perseverance, discipline, learning new skills in general, time management/organization, memory, concentration, self achievement/reflection and much more. There is truly nothing quite like it.

Teaching Experience

I began teaching lessons in 2009 and have had the pleasure of teaching various ages of students from young to older adult. I have seen many of my younger students excel in their band programs, thus making their overall musical experience much more fun and enjoyable. I've also helped older students who never had the opportunity to play an istrument begin their musical journey by teaching them the fundamentals of music and the instrument. Through my own and other's experiences, I've found that taking lessons at the beginning stage of learning an instrument greatly maximizes a student's potential and increases their desire and passion for musical growth, versus a student never having the chance to realize the joys and benefits of music and thier own potenitial because they had no one to guide them propperly. I hope to be able to inspire musical growth through my own passion for music and teaching.

My Philosophy

My main goal is to show students how amazing playing music can be. Nothing is more fufilling than watching a student become inspired to grow as they grasp new ideas and develop a new skill. It is important to instill efficient and productive practice values in a way that that is exciting and fun, and that will foster the desire to learn and progress. Because each person processes information and ideas differently, it is my job to find the best way to "click" with each student in order to maximize their learning and understanding. I make sure to get to know my students by discovering their individual learning style, as well as what inspires them, in order to create customized lessons that ensure a fun and productive experience for each student.
