My background
I come from two musical families. My father is a singer-songwriter guitarist, like me. My sister plays piano, guitar, and bass. She also writes, sings and produces.
My maternal grandmother was a music major in college, a pianist and music teacher (2nd grade) and began playing guitar at age 81. My maternal grandfather and his brother were 1st trumpet in their respective Marine Corps Bands in 1952-1956 & 1959-1963. My Uncle and Aunt sing in a nationally traveling chorale and at their church.
My paternal great grandmother was a professional singer and her son, also had a fine voice. My Uncle also wrote, sang and played guitar before he passed in 1989. Of my 7 cousins 5 are musically talented and two married musicians.
Needless to say, music is in my blood.
In fact my family is so crazy about music.....my name, Taylor. Is after THE James Taylor. I was born into this, and I love it with all my heart.
Which is why I'd love to teach you or your child(ren).
Thank you for taking the time to read this, I appreciate your consideration.
Best,
Taylor-
My Career
I began performing at age 17 in high school, as the first solo performer to make the WLHS Band Showcase as a senior and in pop punk bands. I began writing seriously at 18 and recorded my first demo before college.
In college I realized I liked performing for my classmates in between classes and at parties WAY more than class, so i began to focus on how to play for others as much as possible. I also took and excelled in every music class my school offered.
After two years I was playing monthly and fully devoted to music, so I dropped out of private Catholic community college and moved back to my native Cincinnati to pursue my dream, music.
My sister, a few years younger than I, was in high school then. A performing arts school in the heart of the city, she shared the halls with alumni like Nick Lachey and Sarah Jessica Parker. To make a long story short...MTV filmed a non-scripted reality show based on students at the school and she was chosen as main cast member. Her entire senior year was on national TV and she accumulated a large following quickly.
So we formed a band. I became her guitarist. Our mutual friend and bass player, Seth Huff joined next and Aaron Breadon, also a cast member on the show, rounded out the foursome. Mia Carruthers and the Retros were born. We went to Nashville and made an EP. The MTV show got picked up for a second season and aired one of our songs.
We debuted at #24 on iTunes Pop chart on January 5, 2010.
We thought our lives were set. We flew out to play a showcase for Universal Republic Records in NYC and we got to play an ENCORE. It was truly an amazing experience.
We never heard back from Universal however, loving and leaving us like a stereotypical scuzzy tinder date. We did play the US Open in New York later that year though. Which was awesome.
The band recorded 2 more EP's but never released them. I started on my solo trek when the band fizzled in 2011.
I recorded my debut self titled EP in 2012 in Dayton, Ohio and have released 2 more since then and a single last year, Long Way Road ft. Doc Optimo. I chose to move to Los Angeles to further pursue my passion in 2014.
Since moving to LA I've released 4 music videos, played 50+ shows, began booking at local venues and assembled a 6 piece band. I now plan to begin teaching more and pass on my love and knowledge of music to others.
Hopefully you!
