Brianna S.
Private Music Teacher
Brianna's lessons:
Piano Lessons
With piano, I like to work on the following, depending on your skill level: Scales, technique, fingering patterns, note recognition, reading sheet music, using the pedal, sight reading, and harmonization.
Voice Lessons
I like to make every voice lesson specific to the individual student's needs. The basics that I go through in each lesson are: warm-ups, breathing exercises, vocal exercises, song analysis, ear training, tone, posture, range, matching pitch, working on differentiation between head and chest voice, help with performing classical pieces, pop, r&b, etc.
Drums Lessons
With the drum lessons, we'll focus on: keeping time, rudiments, basic beats (rock, jazz, pop, etc.), fills/solos, stick control, tech., playing along with songs and tracks.
If you're looking for more concert or classical percussion lessons, We will focus on: Tech., rudiments, stick control, keyboard technique (marimba, xylophone, vibes, etc.), solos, etudes.
Music theory Lessons
Music Theory spans so many different sub categories, and I'm here to help you with all of them: Basic theory, Advanced,Chord Analysis, Notation, Chord Progression, Note Identification, etc.
Music composition Lessons
I have a BA in Music with one of the emphasis in Music Composition. I love it! Along with helping you shape a melody or an overall piece; I try to fix or help edit pieces that you have composed. I help you to look for common errors, not so much with melody or harmony of the overall piece, but things like: missing accidentals, range for instruments, notation, clarity. I have composed several pieces that have been used in recitals, video games, churches, and pieces I have used personally.
Overview
I have a passion for music; every aspect of it. I have been a musician for a little over 20 years, I have grown up surrounded by music. I have been singing for 22 years, playing piano for 18 years, and playing percussion for 16 years. I have been in various choirs (concert, gospel, symphonic, and jazz), and bands (concert, symphonic, jazz, orchestra, percussion ensemble, rock/folk). I graduated from North Central College with a BA in Music with an emphasis in percussion performance and composition.
Teaching Philosophy
I like to use a varied method for every individual student. I like to take the first lesson to feel out what they may already know or not know, their personalities, what learning methods may or may not work with them, etc. I teach music theory to every student, no matter what level they may be at musically. After the first lesson, I put together a lesson plan that will work for the student that will include worksheets, exercises, and pieces for them that fit their needs. Fun & enjoyable lessons, that's number 1!
Questions and Answers
How do your lessons for adults differ from lessons for children?
With the adult students, I like to focus more on what they want to learn specifically (what song they want to learn to play or sing), I also go through technique, but I don't focus too much on core fundamentals that may not stick. With kids, I like to focus more on the core fundamentals and technique along with catering to their specific needs.
Why are you a music teacher?
I'm a music teacher because music is my life! I have been in and around music since I was 3 years old. It's my passion. When I'm able share my passion with somebody else that is willing to learn it and love, it makes me incredibly happy.
Why should I choose you as my teacher?
You should choose me as your music teacher because I like to make my lessons fun and enjoyable for everybody. No matter your skill level, I form the lesson around your wants and needs musically.
What do you do during the first lesson?
During the first lesson, I like to take five minutes or so out at the beginning to get to know the student. What their goals are, what type of music they like and listen to. I also like to listen to them sing or play a sample of something so that I can hear where they are musically speaking.
