Songwriting Lessons

If you've always wanted to write your own songs but don't know how to begin, I am the teacher for you. Likewise, if you've already started writing but want to polish up your music or hear some feedback.

Students will learn the basics of songwriting. Piecing together melodies, harmonies, and chord progressions. How to incorporate concepts/themes. Where to add hooks and bridges. How long should your verse or chorus be? Is your song lacking depth or honesty? These are all things songwriters have to grapple with in the music industry.

I can help with that.

Ukulele Lessons

Students will learn all about the ukulele--from the instrument's parts to the strings to the circle of fifths!

Start small with learning notes, simple chords, and strum patterns. Then, as your lessons progress, you'll be able to play any song you want as well as write your own!

* Younger students receive more playful lessons.

* All students will learn techniques of professional ukulele players.

Brit Rodriguez is known for her soulful, smoky voice that beautifully contrasts with the bright, colorful sound of her ukulele. As a musician, she is renowned for her lyrical content and melodic prowess. As a performer, audiences are captivated by her unique sense of humor and down to Earth personality. Influenced by late fifties R&B and nineties dance music, Brit is a hybrid of the raw, youthful energy of today and the great soul and folk divas of the past.

In 2014 she debuted her first demo, My Name Is Brit Rodriguez Please Listen To Me, showcasing only vocals and ukulele. After touring all over the world, from New Zealand to Los Angeles, Brit dedicated several months entirely to working in the studio. In 2016 Brit will be releasing her first fully produced EP, How to Burn, under Caffeine Records.

Brit has been teaching ukulele for three years, going on four. She designed a ukulele workshop to teach players how to incorporate more minor chords in their songwriters called "The Bittersweet Workshop" and brought it to New Zealand, where she toured for a month, and the iconic Guitar Center on Sunset Boulevard. Brit has also taught with the NAMM Foundation at public schools and Make Music Los Angeles for their ukulele Mass Appeal event in Santa Monica.

In her spare time, she runs a music program at the Ronald McDonald House in Los Angeles. She is the founder of Team Ukulele, a charity that supplies instruments and workshops to facilities in Southern California, and Uke Jam L.A., a pop up strum along in the city.

Brit is sponsored by Godin Guitars, Guitarras Manuel Rodriguez & Sons, Boulder Creek Guitars, and Aquila Strings.

“This long awaited breath of fresh air walked in the door of the music store in which I work in the form of Brit Rodriguez. Her shopping for an electric ukulele resulted in the most welcome surprise of a talented young lady whose voice and talent mesmerized and entertained
with only one song.”
— Arthur Hopkins, President of Harmonic Revolution

“Totally cute, talented, and has a voice that sounds like butter melting on hot pancakes”
— Ivonne Carley, Artist & Blogger at BeansandInk.com

“Brit is a refreshing change from the ordinary and her talent brightens every stage she performs on.”
— Keith Harrison, CEO/Founder of Tunii Corp.

“I gave Brit a listen and frankly, I’m impressed. She’s different and that’s the first thing I look for. I love the stark ukulele in the background—it lets her voice be the magic. I bought a few tracks and will include them on our app. “Damn Good Wife” is really special.”
— Val Haller, CEO/Founder of Valslist.com

We hired Brit for a friend's bridal shower, and I am so glad we made that decision. We had a theme of rustic elegance, and with Brit's Norah Jones esque/ Adele esque voice, and the rustic sound of Ukelele, the bridal shower was complete. She brings in such a charm to event!! And her voice and performance are excellent. Definite recommendation! Infact, one of the guests is already planning to hire her for the next event, and I am so excited to hear her perform again!

Brit was an amazing addition to my planned proposal. She was very professional and flexible with the personalized playlist I requested. She showed up early to make sure we could work out all the little details and make sure all her equipment worked properly. Her ukulele was a great touch as my girlfriend now fiancé has family from Hawaii that loved her performance. I would definitely recommend her for any event.

To Brit:
Thank you again for all the help. You being there added that extra touch making our day extra special.

Brit is extremely professional, sweet, and accomadating. Hire her! You will not regret it. So talented! Beautiful voice! Cannot say enough. Loved her.

Karin P. on December 22, 2014

Brit exceeded our expectations in every way. From the time we first contacted her, she was professional and easy to deal with. She arrived on time (actually even a bit early!) and was flexible and easy going with set-up. More importantly, her voice is velvety and wonderful. The ukelele provided the perfect background and entertainment for our party. The guests loved her!

David V. on October 20, 2014

Brit was fantastic! I agree with the reviewer who said to hire her before she wins a Grammy. (If you have any reservations about the Ukulele, forget them. First, her voice and her music are as outstanding in person as you hear on line). She sang for my daughter's 4th birthday with about 12 children. She was well prepared and easy going with the kids. The kids loved her and asked for her to keep singing. She did beautiful arrangements of children's songs in addition to adult songs. The parents loved the music too. She added the enchantment to a party in the woods. I was so happy that we hired her. Absolutely no complaints. I look forward to when my daughter can boast that Brit Rodriguez sang at her birthday party!

Suzanne S. on September 30, 2014

We hired Brit to perform at an art show last year, and we loved her so much we hired her perform again at 2 of our family weddings (We have quite a large family).
Her music creates a perfectly balanced environment for cocktail hours in which you can hold conversations or look up enjoy to dynamic performance.
Not only did her music wonderfully unique and entreating, but her stage presence was also very charming and interactive.
I definitely recommend hiring this girl now, before she ends up at the grammy's!
