Drums Lessons

In our lessons together we will always focus in playing music, meaning we will always have musical examples to work on each subject (reading, technique, certain grooves, etc.).

The lessons are built for the needs/interests of each student. This means that we can work on specific subjects that you are interested in, or we can follow a program that I use with a lot of my students following a series of 6 instructional drum books that I have written.

8 to 65

Hello! My name is Ray Rojo and I'm a professional drummer and drum instructor.

I have been teaching private lessons for over four years and I'm currently accepting new students at my home studio, the studio is fully sound proofed and sound treated to make the lessons more enjoyable. I count with two drum sets, which allows me and the student to play together, making the lessons more fun and efficient. I'm also available to travel to your place if that's your preference. I've taught students ranging from 3 years old to 65 years old.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Performance of Contemporary Music from Musicians Institute, where I have also been a private tutor in subjects including technique, reading, and overall drum set playing. Currently a drum instructor in Cornel School of Contemporary Music, teaching reading classes and contemporary styles. I'm also a published author with 6 educational drum books available in Amazon that are perfect for a beginner/intermediate drummer who is first learning how to play, or for intermediate players who are looking to strengthen their foundations as drummers.

I'm a huge fan of teaching and take the opportunity to help you improve at something you love very seriously. I look forward to helping you accomplish all of your drumming goals!

The Studio

Most of my lesson are taught in my drum studio, where I have 2 drum kits set up to make the lessons more effective and enjoyable. The studio is sound proofed and sound treated, so we can be as loud as we want and it always sounds good!

Questions and Answers

What experience do you have teaching kids?

I have a lot of experience teaching kids, for the past 4 years, the age of most of my students is between 8 and 14 years old, however my youngest student at the moment is 4 years old. I really enjoy teaching younger kids because they learn really fast and the lessons are always really fun.

How do your lessons for adults differ from lessons for children?

The biggest difference is the content of the lessons. When the students are younger I usually provide the material that we work on, and when the students are older they often times have a goal in mind and the focus of the lesson is to achieve that goal. Regardless of the student's age or level, I always make sure the lessons are fun, and that we have a lot of musical examples to play along to.

Why should I choose you as my teacher?

I think the biggest reason you should choose me as your music teacher is that I actually like to teach. I love teaching, I love seeing my students improve, and I take the opportunity to help you do so very seriously.

What do you do during the first lesson?

In the first lesson I always make sure I get to know the goals of the student or the parent, I make sure the students are comfortable behind the kit and confident hitting the drums, and always try to get them to play along to a song. The whole point of playing drums is to play music, and I've found that students that play along to a popular song in the first lesson are way more motivated to keep learning than students who don't play along to music in their early lessons.
