We begin each lesson with basic to advanced vocal warm ups, focusing on breathing, tone, and the strengthening of the vocal muscle. All exercises will be given based on the student's individual needs. We will work on expanding the vocal range and working through any breaks in the voice. The second part of the lesson will focus on a specific piece the student is working on. Coaching for actors looking to expand their voice and projection also available.

Overview

I began taking voice lessons at the age of 12. I had the privilege of singing in some of the top middle school and high school choirs from the age of 12-18, including All District in Fairfax County, VA and All State Choir in VA. I was a member of the Madrigal singing group at McLean High School, which was ranked 14th in the nation at the time for high school choirs, for 3 of my 4 years there. I also participated in numerous musicals and vocal productions throughout my teenage years as well as singing as part of our nationally renowned jazz band. Following high school, I went on to earn a Bachelor of Music degree from The Catholic University of America with an emphasis on Musical Theatre. During my time, I worked professionally doing musical theatre and choir, performing at venues such as Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and The Kennedy Center. At that time, I began teaching voice and musical theatre classes at the Rockville Musical Theatre Center in Maryland, working with kids ages 6-18. I opened the door to my own studio in Los Angeles 2 years ago and have had some tremendous successes working with both kids and adults. I also play the piano and have an extensive music library.

Questions and Answers

What experience do you have teaching kids?

I have an extensive history teaching children through high school age. I began teaching at a musical theatre center in the DC area when I was in college where I taught kids a young as 6 and as old as 18. There, I taught musical theatre performance, group and private voice as well as piano. I have a heavy emphasis on music theory and ear training as I believe it is important to learn at a young age.

How do your lessons for adults differ from lessons for children?

For adults, I add the aspect of using the voice in real life situations. Whatever your daily life is, we work on how you can optimize your voice and your training at all times. I also have a heavier emphasis on performance as most of my adult students are singers and actors who are pursuing a professional career in the arts.
