Overview

Allison began playing viola in fifth grade via the school system in Wisconsin. Through her own enthusiasm and the guidance from many inspiring teachers, she discovered her life’s passion: music education. Allison studied both viola performance (with Rudolf Haken) and string music education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, while attending on a full-tuition scholarship for music performance. While there, she also took up Irish fiddling. Shortly after graduating, she earned her first orchestra director position in DeKalb, Illinois, teaching middle and high school orchestras from 2009 to 2015. While teaching, she was provided the opportunity to simultaneously study chamber music and viola performance with the world-renowned faculty, namely Tony Devroye and Mathias Tacke, at Northern Illinois University. It was during her time at NIU that she met her husband and fellow musician, Albert Agha. Allison remains a private studio teacher and freelance violist and violinist in Los Angeles, performing with various ensembles as opportunities arise.

Having worked with hundreds of students, and having played for more than 20 years, Allison recognizes the importance of good repertoire. When students are involved in their own learning process, they are so excited to study! There are also seasons of learning: at times, students are interested in playing fast, loud, and competitively. At other points, students want to focus on beauty and enjoyment. Love the music, and grow faster! A great teacher is just the facilitator.
