Fun Drum & Music Theory Tutor - Ricardo A

I'm a percussionist that's active in the L.A. County and Orange County areas with a decade of ensemble and band experiences underneath my belt. Examples include Rock and Heavy Metal Bands, Jazz Combos and Big Bands, Symphony Orchestras, and so on. I love having fun by playing awesome and cool styles of music and I also love spreading the joy of music around to people. Helping someone achieve their goals in music, whatever it may be, is one of the most rewarding experiences; it brings me joy to see students grow, achieve their goals, and most importantly, have fun!

I have been making music for 20 years whether that's piano, singing, writing music, film scoring, or performing. I received my bachelors degree in Music Composition (piano emphasis) from the Wheaton College Conservatory of Music outside of Chicago. While I was a student there I was heavily involved in academic classical music events as well as student run popular music events. I have taught private and group lessons for 6 years and have loved every bit of it because I get to share the joy of music with others!

I started playing the piano at the age of three. My formal training began a few years later. When I was twelve years old I started taking private lessons with concert pianist Charlotte Zelka, who made me focus more on timing, volume control, and tonality. She remains a huge influence on my playing and instructional style to this day. In high school I played piano for the jazz band under the direction of Chuck Wackerman. Currently I am performing in two musical projects, and have been teaching for two years.

I have spent the last four years studying and working to become a better classical pianist with the last two being at Whittier College. I am currently a Junior pursuing a BA in Music and am looking to not only expand my musical knowledge but teach others to share the same passion for music that I do. I have been teaching privately for almost six months now and have had success with students as young as six and as old as sixteen. All ages are welcome to learn something they have always wanted to try.
