Overview

Started teaching to a friend of mine's brother in 2010 and loved it! He was a beginner at the time so it was fun being a part of his musical journey and watching him grow in his skill and become more interested in bass and music in general. From there, I started teaching other acquaintances until I had about 3 or 4 students. I then decided that I wanted to teach people that I didn't know and who were beginners. I loved being a part of my first student's musical journey and seeing him grow musically, and I wanted to experience that with others as well. I ended up having 8 students at one point. Fell out of teaching for a little while to pursue more career-oriented roles, but I've grown to miss teaching and want to start doing it part-time again. The best part about teaching was being able to be a part of a student's musical progression, regardless of age. My orchestra teacher in high school had such an impact on my music, and life going forward that being able to be part of that for someone else is really magical. Music is my passion, and getting other involved and interested in that passion is the best part about being a teacher.

Bass-ically, just have fun!

Music is all about fun. When I was a kid I didn't believe that at all. My mom and grandmother made me take piano lessons, and later violin, and as a 10-year-old I hated it. I didn't want to do it, I didn't want the commitment associated with it. Now I hate myself for never taking it seriously back then. Who knows what kind of piano or violin player I could be nowadays. I should have just had fun with it back then instead of looking at it like a chore. It's no different now that I am much older and somewhat wiser. Music, nor anything else in life, should ever seen as a chore. Music is meant to be fun. If you take it too seriously you'll come out hating it and you'll become cranky which will then make everyone else around you cranky, and music then stops becoming fun and starts becoming chore. As having played in many bands in my days, I know this to be true. Music is supposed to bring happiness and people together to enjoy art, just have fun with it and let the music do the rest!
